A novel of salvage high chapter 37
Keisha’s POV
I couldn’t sleep well all night, I have been thinking about Stefan’s sudden confession collide with Chris and Alex’s drama. I have dated a couple of boys in the past, but it was all for fun. My life has never been dramatic like this so I made up my mind that staying platonic with all of them is the best way to solve this. Even if I want to date anybody, it would be neither of them, regardless of how I feel. I like them all ik different ways; I enjoy Alex company a lot, and being with him and his friends reminds me a lot of my friends, and as for Chris, I just kinda enjoy Ike him. He might be a bookworm, but his smile collide with his intelligence makes him attractive to me, and speaking of Stef, he was just a weird boy that I considered using his help, and end up liking him like a brother, just the way I like my cousin. Thinking it all through, Stef is the last on the list, and being with Alex will just make my school life more complicated, giving Chris a chance will also ‘cause trouble in paradise. In order to escape trouble, staying platonic is the best. After breaking up with my ex before I leave the country side, I already made up my mind to remain single till I go to college, so abiding by that is the best decision to make me live peacefully.
I woke up late the following morning, thankfully Stef already went to school. I can’t help the joy I feel to discover that. I went to the kitchen to dish the breakfast left for me when mum joined me in the kitchen.
“You are late, Stef left.” Mum said.
“Yes, I’ll just ride my bicycle, that’s the fantastic ride you got for your daughter in senior year to ride to the prestigious school you transferred her to.” I said. No matter how hard I think about it, getting me a bicycle never seems fair to me.
“I see you woke up with a temper.” Mum teased.
“You said we are leaving.” I blurted. Thinking it through, leaving is the only way to escape Stef, so he could completely get over whatsoever feelings he harbor.
“Let’s leave today, when you are back from school. Before your stepdad returns.” She said, and my eyes widen.
“What? Why so sudden?” I shouted.
“Keisha, once we leave, we will go visit Gigi during the weekend.” She said, and my face brightened - that was the best bribe.
“Mum, I’ll be back early from school to pack my stuffs before my stepdad returns. I promise.” I said, and emptied my glass of water.
“Do you want me to give you a ride?” She offered.
“Cool.” I shouted, and she chuckled.
She might be sad to leave, but it’s her decision. To me visiting my grandmother worth the whole world. I never feel at home in this house to begin with.

I got to school, and met Alex by the parking lot, probably waiting for me.
“Keisha, you are late.” He said, and I smiled.
“Yeah. Why are you still here?”
“I was waiting for you, come one let’s go.” He said, and held my hands; with that, we both ran to class together
We met a teacher in, but she pardoned us and we went to our seat. I looked at Melanie who is back to seating next to me.
“Gosh, just when I thought I figured my life out, turns out I forgot to get rid of a fly.” I thought, and wrong to my seat.

During the classes, she started irrelevant conversations, tha I couldn’t be more thankful when it’s time for recess.
During recess, Alex and his friends came to me immediately, thinking I did run out, and I let out a sigh when I saw Chris approaching us.
“Keisha, I believe we still have things to finish.” He said, and I nodded.
“What things?” Alex asked.
“None of your business.” Chris blurted.
“Do you think you will always use this group work to have your way around her? The midterm examination is in two weeks, so get your tact together.” Alex said, and reality hit me.
Our midterm examination is by the corners, and I’m yet to get anything done. It’s best I get rid of these distractions once and for all.
“Alex, just let her go. She has group stuffs to work on.” Melanie said, and I nodded. That’s the character she is meant to play in my dramatic life, the villain that will separate me from Alex, and I wish she could tag Chris along.
“Then you should go with them, since it’s a group work.” Gabriel said, and Alex nodded.
“Alex, Chris and I have to finish our assignment. So, excuse me.” I said, and followed Chris to the library.
We got to the library, and he searched for books before we went to take a seat.
“Chris, is this really necessary? We are always taking the same book everyday and won’t still find what we need. The internet is more preferable.” I said.
“Then should we go to the e-library?” He asked, and I let out a sigh.
“What? Are you really going to go through this length to deny me my recess break. I know I’m adding very little contributions to this group work, but that doesn’t mean you can always deny me recess.”
“I’m sorry, Keisha. But this is the only way we can be together, else you go to them.” He admitted.
“Chris, you are my friend, so as they are. And it’s left to me to choose who I want go hang out with.”
“But he wants to be more than friends, so as I.”
“Are we going to argue over this again?”
“Keisha, are you bluntly rejecting me because I’m just a bookworm who does nothing but study?”
“Chris, you are my friend so let’s maintain that. Right now, I just want to focus on the examination.”
“Keisha, I’ve something to tell you.” He said, his expression looks serious, so I looked at him already curious.
“I…-“. He was saying when his phone started vibrating. “I’m sorry, I’ve to take this.” With that he excused himself.
I took my phone to respond to Alex messages before he returned.
“Keisha, I’ll take your suggestion, we should work on it with the internet, send me what you find, and I’ll send mine. We should wrap it up in three days.” He said, and carried his bag. “You will return the books, right?” He asked, and I looked at him wondering why he is in such hurry.
“Yeah, I’ll. But why are un hurry? Is there an emergency?”
“No, I got a call, my presence is needed in the staff room. See you.” With that he hurried away.
“So am I to start reading all the tags in the shelf to know where we got each books from?” I grumbled.

📌 Alex’s POV 📌
•
Keisha told me she is already done at the library, and I started anticipating her coming, paying less attention to whatever information Gabriel was passing.
“So that means the new director’s son could be in our level.” Melanie said.
“Not just our level, but our class.” Gabriel said.
“Who is in our class?” I asked.
“Aren’t you here all along? The new director resumed today, and she visited the our class teacher, someone said they say a student enter the office right after, but no one saw his face.” Jeremy said.
“Alex is lovesick, he is absentmindedly thinking about Keisha.” Gabriel teased, and Keisha entered.
“Hi, guys.” She waved.
“Thank God that your group leader released you on time today.” Gabriel teased.
“Yeah, I’m also glad. His attention was called by the class teacher.” She said.
My eyes widen as different thoughts started running through my mind, and Jeremy and I gazed at each other.
“Impossible.” We both chorused.
“What?” Gabriel asked, and I looked at him wondering how he could be that slow.
“Are you guys keeping something from me again?” Melanie asked.
“Relax, his name isn’t Salvage.” Jeremy said. “It’s impossible.” He added.
“What? Do you know the director’s son?” Melanie asked.
“What? That reminds me, remember they both studied in Germany. The chairman’s last son is studying in Germany.” Gabriel said. Finally he was able to understand.
“Could that explain why he was at that party?” Jeremy asked, but no matter how I think about it, he didn’t make sense because Chris is a scholarship student, and his last name isn’t Salvage.
“Guys, they just posted a picture of him from behind with the new director.” Gabriel said, and we all hurried to him.
“Isn’t this Chris?” Keisha said.
“There is no way Chris could be the director’s son.” Melanie said, and collected the phone.
The boys and I gazed at each other, obviously with same thoughts running on our mind.
“That explains it all.” We all chorused.
“He isn’t a secret affair child, neither the hidden Billionaire’s son, but the chairman’s son.” I muttered, and the girls looked at us.
We all went out of our hangout and met the students gathered around Chris.
“What’s going on here?” I asked, and they all looked at us.
“Chris, are you really the chairman’s son?” Keisha asked.
“Keisha, can you save me this time?” He asked, and we all looked at him.
“What happened?” Keisha asked, walking closer to him.
“I’ll take that as a yes.” He muttered and held her hand, running out of the crowd together.
“What the h€ll.!” I shouted, and intend to go after them but Gabriel held me back.
“Man, he is the chairman’s son.” Gabriel cautioned.
*
We returned to our hangout, and I didn’t stop grumbling words, complaining about Keisha leaving with Chris.
“Man, what happens now that he is the chairman’s son?” Gabriel said.
“What do you mean by that? Either he is the chairman son or not, it changes nothing. We are still the germ in salvage high. Do you know how much my father donates to this school? And how much shares Ive in this school?” I shouted.
“We know, we know. You shouldn’t flaunt that to us.” Gabriel said.
“Man, you are in a real competition now. Even when he was just a lowly nerd, he was trouble for you and Keisha, snd now it seems like a lot of things will change.” Jeremy said.
“What do you mean by that?” Gabriel asked.
“You think I’ll be at a disadvantage because he is the chairman son or whatever?” I said.
“You saw the way almost everyone was all over him, and Keisha even left with him.” Jeremy said, and my eyes widen.
“Man, what do we do now?” Gabriel asked.
“Be a man, and win your competition. That’s the best I could say, because it’s highly impossible to get him out of our way now.” Jeremy advised.
“I’ve to go find Keisha.” I said, and hurried out.
“Go for your girl, man.” Gabriel shouted after me.
*
I searched almost everywhere for them but couldn’t find them, so I went to the rooftop.
I got there, and the sense I met breaks my heart - Keisha and Chris kissing each other passionately.
I wanted to go separate them with a punch, but I was unable to move my feet. I tried to talk but my mouth felt too heavy to open, and the least I could do was make a fist.
Jeremy was right, I’m now in a real competition with Chris, but I won’t give up nevertheless.
