⏰Flashback: Valentine’s Day, 1996

The evening sky blushed in hues of pink and orange as Julian walked toward Victoria’s house, a bouquet of fresh roses clutched in his hand. Beside him, his father, Andrew Drake, carried a box of chocolates—a gift for Victoria’s parents to charm them during dinner.

“You’ve got it bad, don’t you?” Andrew teased, nudging Julian’s shoulder.

Julian grinned, his heart full of anticipation. “I just want today to be perfect for her.”

As they reached the front door, the sound of shouting filtered through the cracks. Julian’s steps faltered, concern etching his features.

“Maybe we should come back later,” Andrew suggested, but Julian shook his head, his gut telling him something was wrong.

He opened the door just as Victoria’s father bellowed, “Who’s the father of this baby, Victoria?”

Julian froze, his smile fading. His mind struggled to process the words as he watched Victoria, her face pale and tear-streaked, trembling under her father’s gaze.

“Tell us now!” her mother demanded, her voice sharp with disappointment.

Victoria stammered, her voice barely audible. “It’s… it’s Daniel.”

The world tilted as Julian’s grip on the bouquet slackened, the flowers slipping from his grasp.

“Daniel?” he whispered, his voice raw with disbelief.

Victoria’s head snapped toward him, her eyes widening in horror as she realized he had heard everything.

“Julian,” she started, stepping toward him, but he held up a hand, stopping her in her tracks.

“Daniel from high school?” Julian asked.

“Yes” Victoria replied in tears.

“Daniel the asshole who has five baby mama’s?” Julian said tears swelling up in his eyes.

“Yes” Victoria said softly crying loudly.

“The Daniel my arch nemesis?” Julian asked as the tears started trickling down.

“It was a mistake! I was drunk!” Victoria yelled in tears.

“Tell me it’s not true,” he said, his voice trembling. “Tell me you’re not pregnant with Daniel’s baby.”

Her silence spoke louder than any words could.

Julian’s face twisted in anguish as he turned to leave, but something inside him snapped.

He whirled around, his anger boiling over.
“You slept with Daniel?!” he shouted. “After everything we’ve been through?!”

Victoria tried to reach for him, tears streaming down her face. “Julian, please, I—”

“Don’t touch me!” he roared, his hand instinctively lashing out.
The force of the blow sent her sprawling to the floor, a dark bruise already forming on her cheek.

The room fell silent, the tension palpable as everyone stared in shock.

Victoria’s father recovered first, his face red with fury.
“Call the police,” he barked at his wife.

“Wait, no!” Julian’s father interjected, stepping forward. “This is a misunderstanding—”

But the damage was done. Within minutes, the police arrived, and Julian was handcuffed, his tear-filled eyes never leaving Victoria as they led him out the door.

“Julian!!!!” Victoria screamed as Julian was forcefully shoved into the police Car.

He could see her chasing the police car, he could hear the loud sirens till her voice faded in the background and blacked out.

                ⏰💅Present Day

The sterile scent of antiseptic filled the hospital room as Rylee sat on the edge of her bed, her heart pounding in her chest.

Julian stood near the door, his back to her, his posture stiff.

“Professor,” she began, her voice soft. “I need to tell you something else.”

“Don’t,” he said, his tone clipped.

“But—”

“Don’t make this harder than it already is,” he interrupted, finally turning to face her. His eyes were cold, his expression guarded.

Rylee’s hands trembled as she clasped them in her lap.
“I love you, and I need you like air” she whispered, her voice breaking.

Julian flinched, the words cutting deeper than he expected. “You don’t know what you’re saying, Rylee. You’re young. Confused.”

“I’m not confused!” she insisted, tears streaming down her face. “I’ve never been more sure of anything in my life. I love you, Professor Julian. Please, don’t push me away.”

“Why?” He asked firmly.

“You’re hot and you…….” She began but he cut her off

“Shut your mouth!”

Julian’s jaw tightened as he took a step back. “You need to stay away from me, Rylee. For your sake and mine.”

He turned and walked toward the door, his footsteps echoing in the silent room.

“Don’t leave me,” she pleaded, sobbing.

He paused for a moment, his hand on the doorknob, but he didn’t look back. “Goodbye, Rylee.”

The door closed softly behind him, and Rylee felt her world shatter.

She stumbled out of bed, desperate to follow him, her vision blurred by tears. But her body betrayed her, and she collapsed to the floor.

Alone in the Darkness

When Rylee opened her eyes, the room was dim, the only light coming from the moon outside the window. The hospital was eerily quiet, and her heart sank as she realized she was alone.

“Julian?” she called weakly, her voice barely above a whisper.

But no one answered.

She pulled herself up, her limbs heavy with exhaustion, and sat on the edge of the bed. Her mind replayed the events of the day, the pain in Julian’s eyes, the finality in his voice as he walked away.

Tears welled up again as she whispered to the empty room, “I love you.”

Her words hung in the air, unanswered and unheard.
