"Your wife? Are you kidding me? She divorced you and you still call her your wife? Where the hell was she when I was such a good friend to you all these years?"
"Stop it, Vanessa. I don't have time for your tantrums." He was about to get out of the bathroom but she stopped him.
"You're mine now, don't even try to force yourself on her just because she's rich."
"You don't understand, do you?" Cole said, staring at her in disbelief.
"I don't care! Just get away from her!"
"Hailey is my wife and no one will ever take her place out of my life or my heart!" Cole pushed Vanessa out of the way, leaving her behind.
Tears streamed down her cheeks the moment Cole stepped out of the picture. With her back against the wall, Vanessa slid down her butt as she landed on the cold floor. She opened her wallet and pulled out her phone. With trembling hands, she located a certain number and dialed it immediately.
“Mom!!!!” she cried.
“Baby, what is it? Who hurt you?” Connie’s worried voice came through.
“I lost everything, Mom.” She gasped.
“Lost what? Talk to me baby. How did the meeting go?”
“Scary! Hailey’s back.”
“Hailey? Isn’t she already dead?”
“She’s back. She owns Enroll. She’s the new CEO of the company and now she wants to take Cole away from me.”
“What? How is that possible?”
“I don’t know, Mom. My grandfather made her the heir, not me. She owns Enroll. She’s taking over everything.” Dad couldn’t even look her in the eye because he was so embarrassed and Cole kept running after her.” Vanessa cried. “I’ve come this far and I don’t want to see all my efforts go to waste. This is really a slap in the face. She can have company for all I care about but there’s no way I’m losing Cole to her.”
“Please go home, honey, and let’s talk about this. I’ll talk to your dad. There’s probably a mix-up in your grandfather’s will.”
“What if I tell dad that I beat her up and caused her to lose her baby?”
“Come on, sweetheart. Your dad didn’t believe her when she tried to defend herself that she was drugged and ended up in the same bed with Cole. What makes you think he’ll believe her now?”
“Hailey’s rich now. It won’t be long before she’s someone’s favorite.”
“How rich?”
“I just said she owns Enroll. You should see it, mom. Hailey looks way out of our league. Her handbag is limited edition. That shit is almost a hundred grand.” I never thought there was karma but that’s how it started.”
“That’s hard to believe. Where did you get the money to start a company? Your allowance was five times what your father used to give you. Nothing adds up.” Connie said, feeling confused.
“She’s probably sleeping with someone who funds her lifestyle. It doesn’t even matter because I deserve all the good life she has, not her. She’s the stepdaughter. She should suffer.”
“Go home, sweetheart. Let’s talk about this properly.” Connie heard her daughter cry.
“I don’t want to lose Cole.”
“Then you have to get him to marry you ASAP.”
“I tried. You know how stubborn he is.”
“Then try harder, darling! It would be so good if you were pregnant for him. That way you’d have the right to the marriage and his property.”
Vanessa sighed deeply. “It’s so hard to sleep with him.”
“How hard can it be, Vi? You got your stepsister involved. Why is it so hard to do this to yourself? Try harder! Four years is more than enough time for you and Cole to get together and start a family. I don’t know what you spent all that time doing?”
“What now? Are you blaming me mom? Who the hell knew that Hailey would rise from the dead?”
Cole met his Etam by the elevator.
“Sorry boss. I went to attend to some calls.”
“Where’s Hailey?”
“She left with her boyfriend.”
“What the fuck.” Cole approached the elevator and pressed the button twice, waiting impatiently for it to open.
“What’s going on, sir?” Etam asked, really worried.
“There’s no way I’m letting her leave me again.”
“You mean the company?”
“She’s my damn wife!!!” I frowned. The elevator door opened. Cole entered and as confused as Etam was, he followed suit. The elevator started to descend before he could get those words out of his chest.
"You guys are married? Where? How? You don't even wear a ring and I don't remember her wearing one. That's why those office workers are flirting with her."
Cole turned to face Eitam. "They dare flirt with my woman?"
