🌃 WHAT DID I DO TO MY MUM?🌃

EPISODE 13

My heart was in my mouth after giving a glance at the television set.

I saw a young lady that resembles me was apprehended by Ken and some policemen.

At first, I recognized the young man -ken- whom I saw on the television set but I couldn't remember his name.

I knew I had seen his before.

Wuna saw the expression on my face and asked me what the problem was.

I feigned saying that it was fine.

We left the hospital instantly.

While we were walking home, Wuna was trying to converse with me but I suddenly became a yes man - I couldn't repudiate his opinion as regards the theme we were discussing.

I concurred with everything he was saying.

"Don't tell me that it is fine, what is the problem?" Wuna said.

"Nothing, I'm alright" I retorted weakly.

"No! things are not well. Remember a problem shared is half solved" He replied.

"The young lady we saw on the screen in the hospital, that looks like me is being arrested because of the offence I committed" I verbalized as though I was down in the dumps.

"Which offence?" Wuna asked immediately.

"Don't worry, I would share with your dad, Seke and you what transpired" I returned "luckily I have regained a bit of my memory".

Wuna accorded with me. He didn't query me again rather, we change the discussion.

He was indeed patient. He knew that a person who is patient in one minute of Anger will avoid 100 days of sorrow.

Ugwu had always told him and Seke to always be patient, that a handful of patience is worth more than a bushel of brains.

We walked hastily because the hot sun was heating on us mercilessly making some arteries to be visible in our faces.

When we got to the house, I told Ugwu what the doctor said. I also showed the test slip and him reading it line by line made him smile broadly.

He was happy that I was fully recovered.

"Papa, she gets a story to tell us" Wuna uttered.

"A story?" Ugwu asked.

"Yes, papa" I replied.

"Seke! Seke!, Where has this boy gone to..?" Ugwu yelled.

Ugwu loved his sons listening to stories because they teaches a great lesson.

Seke finally came out. Wuna, Seke and I sat on the mat while Ugwu was sitting on the Woody chair.

"My daughter, we're all ear - go ahead," Ugwu said.

My face was full of smiles as I started narrating everything that happened.

I was sad in the heart but still chortling while narrating every bit of the story.

They lumped in the throat while I was telling them the story.

Ugwu breathed heavily saying that he was short of words.

His two sons were staring at me with tears forming in their eyes.

They consoled me that everything will be fine.

"A fault confessed is half redressed," Ugwu said. "You wouldn't have chopped off that Man's manhood - it is abominable; I know you did it out of frustration".

Wuna and Seke started mumbling to themselves as though they were trying to fathom the proverb Ugwu just said.

"Papa, a lady that looks like me have been seized in place of me - they thought I am the one" I verbalized profusely.

"That is life for you, my daughter" Ugwu replied.

"Some of us were accused falsely by our people for kílling our chiefs then and they were hanged by the government" Ugwu added.

"Saro was our leader then, he was hanged more than six times before he paid the debt of nature".

Instantly, I flashbacked to the story Seke told me the other day about Olani people being hanged because of their agitation towards their oil well.

"I ran to my maternal home - I wouldn't have been alive today" Ugwu muttered.

I was listening intensively to what he was saying. Wuna and Seke were listening too.

"My children, go and eat your lunch. I don't want to recall my past events" Ugwu ordered.

We left instantly to the thatched kitchen and we ate an okro soup with two wraps of akpu each.

The next day, Ugwu and I were sitting under the mango tree breathing some fresh air at the tree.

Ugwu was listening to the news on the radio and I heard the news broadcaster say that the trials of the lady that kílled a bank manager and his boss had begun.

I jumped out of my skin hoping that she won't be sentenced to déath for the offence she didn't commit.
