The rectifiers 6 (end)
.. ........
When the news of the assassination of the drug dealer broke, the people were jolted. They hadn't heard from The Rectifiers for a long time and the memories of their activities were gradually fading in their minds. The news of the dead drug dealer reignited their support for The Rectifiers who were the only righteous police in the state.
But the financier of The Rectifiers was very angered by the assassination of his father in-law. He was supposed to be a sacred cow, he was supposed to be off limits as the financier had instructed. But how was he supposed to be left alone to continue perpetuating the same crime other had been killed for? How was he supposed to be untouchable when people who committed lesser crimes had been killed?
No, Israel never bought the idea and he had done that which was right by the founding ideology of the group. But he wasn't done yet. Since he brutally killed Bella, his perception about the group had been changing. Then the sentimental argument posed by the financier gave him a clear view of what he should do.
Somehow, he unconsciously sought revenge against the group for Bella's murder. He didn't count himself out. Whatever he planned on doing against the other members of the group, he equally planned to do it to himself as well.
While he planned on what to do, the financier planned on how to avenge the death of his father in-law. It became a battle between Israel who was the fore frontier of the group and the financier who was the financial strength of the group.
Ahmed who was the second co-founder of the group tried all he could to broker peace between the two parties, but that was a hard nut to crack. The war persisted while both parties plotted their individual plans.
The unrest among the giants of The Rectifiers put a stop to their activities. Time had passed and nothing was heard about them. But the police never stopped hunting them. They put out toll free numbers to be called by the residents if any activity that matched that of The Rectifiers was seen. They also increased the monetary reward for any information that could lead to the apprehension of The Rectifiers.
Two months after the assassination of the drug dealer, the financier decided on what to do. He was going to pay Israel in his own coin. He hired trained assassins to do the job. He planned it that after Israel had been shot, a note proclaiming him to be the leader of The Rectifiers would be dropped beside his corpse. He planned to convince the police using the previous bullet wound on Israel's shoulder.
That evening, Israel was driving home when he noticed that two men on a motorcycle were tailing him. Since the fallout with the financier, he'd been very security conscious. The two men were putting on helmets and he couldn't see their faces. To be sure that they were following him, he did some maneuvering and intentionally missed the road to his house. They followed him still, confirming his suspicion.
Then, Israel started maneuvering the traffic in other to evade them. They followed him in pursuit until he managed to ditch them. He knew they were sent by the financier of The Rectifiers, thus he knew he needed to do whatever he planned to do very fast.
Instead of going to his house, he went to a cheap hotel where he believed no one would think to search for him. There, he made a video.
"My name is Israel Asuquo. I am the founder of The Rectifiers. The group was founded following the government's failure in effecting justice and equity. Whoever that was visited by The Rectifiers deserved what he or she got and more. But recently, the group seemed to have lost the sight of its goal. So, it is my duty as the founder to put an end to it. This video is for the police and I hope they use it right. The key members of the group are I, Israel Asuquo, Ahmed Shola the co-founder, Bright Adeniyi of B-express and Bright illuminous Ltd, who is the sole financier of the group, and Ngozi Mba of NG kitchen. Evidences supporting this video are on the way to the office of the commissioner of police. God bless human kind", Israel recorded in the video.
Just as he was concluding the video, a knock came on the door of the room. He didn't respond. Instead, he quickly posted the video on his facebook timeline. The knock came again. He held his gun in readiness before asking who it was. A female voice said it was the room attendance from the outside. He wasn't expecting any attendance, thus he asked her to leave.
Just then, a bang came on the door and it flung open. The two men who trailed him earlier on a bike barged in shooting sporadically. Israel was shot multiple times before he could defend himself. He died almost immediately. Having ascertained that the job was done, the assailant zoomed off.
Israel's video went public before he died. That became the apprehension and end of The Rectifiers. That which he started, he ended as well.
