The Rectifiers 2
.................................
As the pandemonium caused by the assassination of the assistant commissioner of police and the suicidal death of his assailant continued, people gathered around the premises of the assistant commissioner's office.
Many news agencies were already present seeking to be the first to carry the news of the attack and its cause. But they were not allowed into the premises. The news agents interviewed the people around hoping to get the real story. But no one knew exactly what happened.
Just then, a man riding on a motorcycle with his face covered by a hood rode past at a high speed. By the gate of the premises where people had gathered, he threw a pack of flyers up in the air as he continued his movement.
At first, people scampered for safety thinking another attack had come. Then gradually, they came back and read the content of the flyers. The flyers contained the details of the inhumane activities of the assistant commissioner of police.
They gave the location of the slaughter house, the names of the officers who were involved in the crime and their account details showing their fat balances. They also urged the authority to pass death sentences on the erring officers as jail term was not part of their ideology.
With the revelations made by 'The Rectifiers' through the flyers, there were uproar all around the city. Within hours, the people had organized themselves and stormed the slaughter house. There, all the claims of 'The Rectifiers' were confirmed. It was a gory sight as fresh and decaying human body parts were discovered in the underground house built in the outskirt of the city.
Also, a group of sick, malnourished and dying individuals were rescued from captivity in the dungeon. With that, the support of the people for 'The Rectifiers' increased geometrically. Some of those who never believed in them saw reasons to. The people also demanded for the prosecution of the officers involved in the crime.
Once again, 'The Rectifiers' had rectified. But no one knew who they were still.
..
Six years ago, a woman was knocked down by an over speeding vehicle while she was coming back from church on a Sunday evening. The vehicle plunged its head into a drainage but the driver was unscathed. The woman was rushed to the hospital by some good Samaritans who were at the scene. Her children were contacted.
The police arrested the driver of the vehicle who was the teenage son of a known wealthy man in the city. They also took statements from the witnesses who confirmed that the woman was on the pedestrian way when the vehicle hit her at a high speed.
Unfortunately, the woman died hours later in the arms of her only son, Israel, who was a third year student in the University. Her two young daughters were there too. The death of their mother made them orphans as their father had died years ago. In pain, sorrow and agony, the woman's children led by their elder brother demanded justice for their mother. Then, the story changed.
The police provided a statements saying that the car was driven by an adult and that their late mother crossed the road without carefulness which resulted in the accident that took her life. They blamed her for her death and shielded the wealthy man's son from the law.
Israel and his siblings couldn't believe their ears. They were there when the statements were taken and they knew what the witnesses said. But then, money had changed hands and the victim had been named the culprit. All the efforts they made to get justice for their mother failed. Corruption prevailed. Instead, they were offered a huge amount of money by the wealthy man as compensation.
Israel took it. He knew what the death of their mother who was the breadwinner meant. He knew his siblings needed the money. He took it with a resolution to avenge his mother's death through any means necessary. While he frequented the police station concerning his mother's case, he met Ahmed.
Ahmed's younger brother was incarcerated in the police cell because his master accused him of stealing from him. But in confidence, he told his brother that his boss locked him up because he witnessed the diabolic means through which he killed his wife. He begged Ahmed to do anything he could to get him out of there because he feared that his master wanted to eliminate him any means necessary.
Unfortunately, before Ahmed could come up with the amount his brother was accused of stealing, his brother had been poisoned. He died miserably a day after he was released. The death of his only brother devastated him. He knew who killed him but he couldn't give him justice. Fighting against the strong and mighty requires being strong and mighty.
The day he went to protest for the death of his brother at the police station, Israel was there concerning his mother's case. After Ahmed was bundled out of the police station in tears and helplessness, Israel went to console him. They were in the same shoe at that moment and Israel knew where it hurt.
Their meeting became the birth of 'The Rectifiers'.
Since then, they had been secretly recruiting people who were caught in the web of injustice and corruption. They made sure to take their recruits through an oath that would see to their deaths the moment they thought of betraying the group.
They also had a secret financier who was only known to Israel and Ahmed. It took them two years to assemble a formidable team before hitting their first strike.
Their ideology was simple; all humans are equal, anyone who alters that dies.
